Kelly Woodall at Victoria House

Victoria House is a happy home for eight residents who need support and care to fulfil their potential. We meet them around Llangadog from time to time - Ellen, Sula, Rachel, George, Matthew, Andrew, Richard, who cares for plants and the display areas at Ystrad Nurseries, and Clare, who enjoys working in the Red Lion and is a budding actress - she had a part in the last year's Theatre Group music hall production, and in the show based on a previously unknown mystery spy story about the train that got stranded at Llangadog station during the war.

The “house manager” at Victoria House is Kelly Woodall. Kelly started her career as a nurse but specialised over a few years to become an experienced and enthusiastic professional carer for young adults with learning difficulties. She comes originally from Myddfai and went to school there. Now she lives in a converted barn in Llandovery with her partner and two small but very demanding daughters. Several members of her extended family live in Llangadog.

The main mission of Kelly and all the other staff at Victoria House is constantly to enrich the special feeling among their community that it is “home” to all of them.

The residents share many talents, including weaving which requires skill and patience to set up the equipment so as to produce flawless rugs like the one in the picture. The weaving happens in the yellow annexe “Bran Yard” down Station Road where there are four looms. There is also a small café for visitors to enjoy hot drinks.

The Victoria House team is planning to extend and improve the café, and to make and sell meals there. Watch this space!
