Three local organisations won prizes and accolades in the 2005 Brecon Beacon National Park Authority Awards Competition.

Llangadog Balchder Bro won an award for raising the awareness of the Park’s special historic qualities and cultural heritage. Funded by Heritage Fund and run by a group of volunteers Balchder Bro has been responsible for researching local history as well as promoting the work of small local companies and crafts people by organising a sale of work for them. They have also partly funded this website.

Gwynfe Community Centre won an award for the conservation and enhancement of their environment. Through the efforts of a small band of local people a new village hall has been built in Gwynfe and regular training, social and cultural events are held there.

Award judges highly commended Donald and Ilenna Jones of Cennen Cottages, Gwynfe for the high quality of the holiday accommodation they have to offer. The family purchased the then derelict Blaenllynnant farm and converted the farm buildings into self-catering holiday cottages.
