Balchder Bro Committee News
Following the initial meeting the Balchder Bro Committee purchased
a computer and organized an evening inviting everyone in the area
to bring old photos and artefacts to be scanned and logged into
the computer, this is now kept in the local primary school where
the children are in the process of producing a documentary/portfolio
which will be displayed at the local hall or school.
Cambria Archaeology were commissioned to create
a portfolio of the area's ancient history and geography, this
is now for sale from the committee (Arolwg Hanes Llangadog Heritage
Audit), this was done in August 2004.
The Committee organized an Autumn Food &
Craft Fair as their sustainable event, this proved very popular
and successful, and has been held for the last three years. Due
to popular demand, we are currently in the process of organizing
a Spring Food & Craft Fair. 20 stall holders have participated
at the Fairs, coming from a small radius around Llangadog.
Post Cards and Christmas Cards have been printed
using different scenes from within the locality i.e. Llangadog,
Bethlehem and Gwynfe, with the Christmas Card depicting seasonal
scene of Llangadog Church.
A Camcorder was purchased and two members of Llangadog YFC were
recruited to video the older members of the community in their
homes, where they could relax and speak frankly about their memories
these will soon be edited to create a DVD for everyone with an
interest, and an evening will be arranged to premier the result.
This website has been created of which we are
very proud, further funding was provided by Richard and Win Morgan
of the Post Office, who helped with the project. Orchardweb was
employed to create and host the site, which is proving very popular
with everyone especially people who have moved away from the area.
We are at present looking for adverts and links to go on to the
site to generate income to cover the cost of updating and hosting
in order to ensure its future.
The local primary school is taking a very active
part in all our projects and has created a mural of our whole
area, with the help of a local artist Andrew Evans. This is displayed
in the Local Community Centre.
The Secretary of our committee (Rhiannon Scott) has ensured that
full media coverage has been given to the events, with reports
in all the local papers.
Our final project is to produce information
boards for Bethlehem, Gwynfe, and Llangadog. These will be done
by Cambria Archaeology and other bodies at a cost of approximately
£7000. These will give information on the areas, with graphics
included. Logos of all bodies involved with this project will
be displayed on the boards.
