A new meeting room, kitchen and public toilet
in the village?
Now that the building repairs to the tower of
St Cadog’s Church are about to begin, we are turning our
attention to raising funds to alter the interior of the church
to include a meeting room / kitchen in the area to the left of
the main entrance, and a disabled toilet in the base of the Tower.
The meeting room would double as a kitchen with
the sink and equipment discreetly hidden by hinged bureau type
lids. The meeting room construction would be a solid, dado level,
wooden wall with glazed screen above, dividing it from the rest
of the church and so aiding soundproofing so that the meeting
room activities are not heard in the church.
The meeting room would have a gallery over, with
staircase for access which would be against the wall opposite
the main entrance. The gallery would incorporate a toughened glass
panel fitted to the window which would form the side wall of the
upper floor.
A new heating system and boiler would be installed,
and the whole church would be rewired.
The main front and side doors into the church
would be altered to be disabled friendly. The organ may be removed
and replaced with a smaller electric organ which would be sited
on the wall above the new gallery, displaying the pipes of the
large organ.
Would your organisation use a meeting room /
kitchen and loo if one were provided in St Cadog’s Church?
We are trying to raise a Lottery People and Places Grant towards
the cost of this work, but we need proof that the community will
use the facilities.
Would you please write a letter to the Vicar,
Rev Michael Cottam, The Vicarage, Walters Road, Llangadog, SA19
9AE advising him that you would use the meeting room, that the
toilet would be very much valued by the community because the
church is open every day and there is no other public toilet in
the village, and that the addition of the kitchen would increase
the type of occasion the church would be used. Do you have any
suggestions we should consider?
Thank you.
